Aniline leather

The “grain” of the leather refers to which part of the cowhide the leather is obtained from. In general, full grain is considered to be rarer and more expensive, followed by top grain and then genuine leather. However, to fully understand the distinction, we have summarised the information for you to read on below.

Full Grain Leather
Full grain leather is primarily the top layer of the hide and is considered the best quality of leather. It is durable and aesthetically exquisite from the visible natural grains. However, as no cow hide is flawless, thus imperfections like scars, marks will be visible as well. When full grain leather ages, it burnishes and beautifies by developing a pleasing patina. Patina are spots of sheen and shine that is a result of the leather absorbing traces of life nature elements around it like water, moisture, dirt, sunlight, or even natural body oils.If you want leather that ages nicely, full grain leather is for you.
Top Grain Leather Sofa
Top grain leather is widely considered as the second highest grade of leather. The outermost layer of the hide is removed to obtain top grain leather. This is done when the hide has too much imperfections like scars, blemishes which is usual for most bulk of raw hides and requires to be sanded down to remove these imperfections. After the top surface is sanded down, a finish is applied, giving it a “smooth” feel. While this finish takes away most breathability, it prevents stains that would otherwise sink into full-grain leather. The leather will now be thinner and more workable in terms of craftmanship for the manufacturer. Thus, top grainis the most common type of leather used in high-end products. As such, it usually has a large variety of colours and finishes.

Corrected Grain Leather
When raw cow hide has too many deep scars & marks and the option of sanding down the top outer most layerto become top grain leather is not feasible, the outer natural grain surface is completely removed and then covered with multiple layers of pigment and protective finish. It will then be embossed with a uniform grain pattern for aesthetic purposes. .

Aniline Leather
Aniline leatheris primarily the same as full grain leatherand regarded as the highest quality leather and most expensive of all leather types as only the very best raw hides can qualify for this type.Full-aniline leather is dyed with aniline dye, which is soluble dye which penetrates the leather. This achieves the desired colour while retaining the natural look of the leather such as visible scars, pores or blemishes. Only high quality hide (full grain) with good natural appearance will be made into aniline leather. This leather becomes more beautiful with age, with the natural patina developing a deep character over time.
With no protective layer or coating on the surface, aniline leathers boast superior seating comfort as they are able to breathe and absorb moisture. “Aniline leather naturally allows the heat from the body to be absorbed into the leather because there is no pigment or polyurethane barrier (as used on lesser quality leathers).
